Did You Know 4.0

What I Know to Be True

Aloha Family and Friends,

I just finished creating and posting a weekly wrap-up for my online class. I always leave them with a quote. Today I found a neat quote from a Gatorade commercial I thought I'd share it on my blog as well. Happy Sunday everyone!

"It's not where you're from; it's where you're going. It's not what you drive; it's what drives you. It's not what's on you; it's what's in you. It's not what you think; it's what you know."

Here are a few things I don't have to "think" about; I just know them to be true:

This world is not my home

Time spent wasting is not time wasted--Go to the beach! (adapted from Emerson)

They won't remember what you said, they won't remember what you did, but they will always remember how you made them feel. (Maya Angelou)

The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.
(Mark Twain)

Spend the afternoon; you can't take it with you! (Annie Dillard)

And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count, but the life in your years. (Abraham Lincoln)

    Technical Difficulties

This year I'm teaching three digital media classes at the high school. I need some ideas from all of you techies out there! What cool things can I teach my students to do online? I'm looking for free programs that are hopefully not blocked by the DOE. Leave me a comment if you have an idea I can pursue!

Okay, so here is my challenge for the next couple of weeks. I have 25 students in a lab of 25 computers. Sounds ideal, and hopefully it will be, but for now the computers aren't up and running. This means I have 25 16 and 17 year olds sitting in front of very tempting consoles that they are instructed "not to touch." Yeah...right! ;)

I'm in need of some brilliant mini-lesson ideas that have to do with digital media, but don't require digital media!! Last week I did cyber bullying and netiquette. This coming week...well, I'm still brainstorming.

    Watcha got?!

    I love you, Tuesday mornings

Tuesdays are my "day off." Well, by day off I mean that it's the one day I don't go into the high school. I'm "part-time" at the high school (yay!), but I'm also part-time with University of Phoenix. Somehow, 1+1 feels like more than 2. But, I digress. On Tuesday mornings I like to pretend that I'm a stay-at-home mom! I usually blare The View (I like Elisabeth) and chug a few mugs of coffee while I fold laundry, prep food, play with Blakely, etc.

Yesterday was no exception. I reveled in the moment of being "that lady" who stood in the front yard, baby on hip, in a bathrobe, with a mug of coffee. I patiently waited for my pups to do their business so I could collect a stool sample from Da Kine. TMI, I know. It was Da Kine's yearly vet visit yesterday and I had to do what I had to do. I felt a little awkward scooping up poop while I juggled my baby, coffee, and tried not to flash any neighbors as I crouched down. Oh well...like I said, I actually enjoy these moments!

Tell you what I didn't enjoy...paying the bill for Da Kine. Seesh! Next time I fall in love with a fluffy white peke-a-poo at my local pet store, someone please remind me that dogs are expensive! It's a good thing Da Kine's ditziness is so endearing.

Here..I captured the moment while in the waiting room! Miss you all!
Da Kine. Poor thing. She was a little freaked out being at the vet without Irie...but I had my hands full with a hungry baby.
Nursing in the Ergo..it works everytime!

As I carried B in one hand and a baggie of puppy poop in another, I got a little grossed out...hence the coffee mug of doggie doodoo. :)

    Bubbles

When we picked up B's new nebulizer and mask yesterday, I semi-sarcastically remarked that the mask is kinda creepy. The pharmacist cheerily replied that the adorable mask is named Bubbles. Riiiiiight.... that makes it less creepy. ;)
So, Blakely has a nebulizer! I hear lots of babies use nebulizers from time-to-time. Our amazing pediatrician says that Blakely most likely has asthma, but we'll know more later. For now, she can breathe easy using Bubbles!
